Description

By the end of this course students are expected to have a basic understanding of the range and impact of laws and regulations restricting the media and journalists in New Zealand, including their underpinning principles.

Prerequisites

Limited Entry: Subject to admission to the Journalism Major and permission from the Head of Department.

Assessment Due Date Percentage  Description
Portfolio of court stories 24 Sep 2021 40% 3 court stories, from 3 separate cases,No story may be more than 400 words The minimum word count for your portfolio (i.e. all 3 stories combined) must be more than 800 words.
Tutorial Assignment 10% You will be assigned some writing tasks, which we will workshop in class (details are outlined in your workshop reading list).
Field Trip Assignment 25 Aug 2021 10% We aim to attend the Christchurch Courts as a class, where you will take notes from the courtroom and write a court report that we will workshop in class later that week. • Bring your draft
Law exam 40% The Law part of the course will be assessed by an open book exam requiring you to address 7 out of 10 case study problems and answer 2 out of 4 short answer questions.
