Description

In this course students will establish the links between theory and practice. Students will further develop professional and clinical competency in managing a client caseload in an on-campus clinic. Students will successfully apply research skills of planning and executing a case study that includes a critical appraisal of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, methods for data collection, analysis and interpretation.

Assessment Due Date Percentage  Description
Competency Assessment in Speech Pathology (COMPASS ) This assessment must be passed in order to obtain a passing grade for this paper.
Three written reflection assignments 30% Students will submit 3 written reflection assignments during the neurogenic clinic. Assignment 1 - Friday 14th March (4.00 pm) Assignment 2 - Friday 28th March (4.00 pm) Assignment 3 - Friday 11th April (4.00 pm)
Verbal case discussion 05 May 2014 10% Students will discuss two cases that they have observed and/or assessed during the neurogenic placement. One case should have a focus on communication disorders and the other case should have a focus on dysphagia.
Acquired neurogenic clinic workbook 19 May 2014 10% Students are required to submit their completed workbook at the conclusion of the placement. Each question and section of the workbook should be clear, complete and supported by examples as necessary.
ePortfolio 27 Jun 2014 50% This assessment requires students to identify, reflect, illustrate and arrange exemplars of their clinical work and clinical competency-based goals, as defined by COMPASS in an ePortfolio format. Students are required to illustrate their learning and development over time and to analyse and explain their learning process within written evaluation.
