Ioane Ioane appointed UC Pacific Artist in Residence

Exciting news - the Macmillan Brown Centre for Pacific Studies has announced its 2016 Artist in Residence - New Zealand-Samoan artist Ioane Ioane. As part of his proposal, Ioane plans to research the navigational heritage of the Pacific and carve a series of maquettes based on the Samoan va’atele (three-metre canoe).

Funded by a Creative New Zealand grant, his three-month artist’s residency runs from 8 June to 8 September 2016. We can't wait to see the work Ioane produces at UC!

21 Day Pacific Challenge - teams announced!

The UC 21 Day Pacific Challenge is officially underway! On Thursday 5 May the students and their mentors met for the first time and the teams were announced. Big congrats and best of luck to the six UC Pasifika students who are part of the initial five teams competing in the challenge: Anshni Kumar, Ricky Nath, Ana Avia-O’Connor, Charles Tevi, Olivia Shimansaki and John Whitcombe.

We look forward to watching the teams' journey over the next couple of weeks as they work towards creating a solution for a community in Niue.
