SPECIAL TOPIC: INTIMATE RELATIONSHIPSTaking a predominately social and evolutionary psychology approach, this course explores the science of intimate (or romantic) relationships. This course aims to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the major theories, methodology, and topics in the field. Topics to be covered include attachment, mate selection, relationship maintenance, communication/interaction and relationship dissolution.At the end of the course students should:1) have gained knowledge about the current standing of the field2) be able to critically evaluate intimate relationship research3) be able to develop research questions and design appropriate methodology to further knowledge and fill the existing gaps within the intimate relationships literature4) be able to communicate theory and research in both written and oral formats.

Emma (Psychology doctoral student) is a recent winner of a Fulbright Ministry of Science and Innovation award, that enabled her to spend all of 2013 at the University of Minnesota, USA, undertaking research towards her PhD.
