Description

Reviews and analyses the design of information systems and considers their application for making critical business and accounting decisions.

The design, implementation and use of information systems to enhance decision making in contemporary organisations with a particular emphasis on accounting information systems.

Learning Outcomes

1.  Demonstrate the ability to use at least one accounting information system critique its features and that of at least one other accounting information system.

2.  Evaluate the evolvement of enterprise systems and how this relates to the qualities of information

3.  Document and evaluate business processes and recommend appropriate internal controls

4.  Evaluate different approaches to the acquisition of information systems with a particular emphasis on the acquisition of accounting information systems.

5.  Evaluate different approaches to decision making relating to information systems.

Room KG06, Kirkwood Village; Tuesday 9:00 am-12 noon

(Parts of some of the sessions will be held in KC03 as computers will be required, however all of the sessions commence in KG06).

Assessment

Assignment #1 – Use and Critique of Accounting Information Systems – Monday 21st November – 30%

Assignment #2 – Documenting Accounting Information Systems – Friday 2nd  December – 30%

Exam – Tuesday 6th December – 40%


Note that aegrotats are not available for any item of assessment in this course without the prior approval of the MPA Director in consultation with the lecturer. Wherever possible and with the lecturer’s agreement, a replacement assessment will be sought in each case where a student has not been (with valid reason) able to submit or has been disadvantaged in some way.
