Description

The Human Interface Technology - Prototyping and Projects course covers the design and development of software, hardware and physical products from initial requirements gathering to a testable prototype. Students will learn how to determine requirements for a project, techniques for creating prototypes, interface programming, and electronics. Students will work individually and in teams to complete assignments. This course consists of lectures and assignments. Familiarity with basic programming concepts is recommended.

In an interactive way, this course covers topics such as:

• How does one analyse requirements and engage with clients and other problem owners?
• What are effective project management approaches for human interface design projects?
• What are the specific challenges and common approaches towards developing interface technology, including work with and on AR, VR, and AIG?
• How does one go from an idea, through a prototype to a commercial product?
• How does one program interactive experiences for AR, VR, and AIG?

Individual as well as work in teams will be required to complete assignments. This course consists of interactive lectures and assignments.

Structure:

This course includes interactive lectures and workshops that take place in the HIT Lab NZ at UC. Students will explore and discuss the topics, and work towards identifying practical, creative approaches to solutions of formulated problems. In this problem-based, constructive learning approach, students will get to know various fields of human interaction technology design, useful for their research-based thesis work following the courses.

The topics of HITD603 are well aligned with the content of HITD602. Both courses complement each other and provide students with foundational knowledge and practical skills to prepare and conduct their thesis projects. However, both HITD602 and HITD603 courses are separate and do not need to be taken together.
