Learning Outcomes

1. Understand the life cycle perspective from the ISO14040 framework including the process of LCA, system boundaries, impact categories, and inventory model (LCI).
400 level: Understand the principles and analysis process. 600 level: Critically evaluate the journal literature for the methods and findings that others have published.
2. Develop competency in using software for LCA (OpenLCA) 400 level: carbon calculations
600 level: other environmental impacts
3. Understand emissions to land, air, and water generally, and more specifically the Maori worldview of waste.
4. Apply LCA software to a product or process.
400 level: a well defined product with a non-complex lifecycle
600: more complex product or process, with reference to the literature
5. Evaluate findings from LCA. Critique the model. Recommend implications for practitioners/industry.
6. Document method and results, Communicate findings in a professional manner for a technically literate audience.
