One in four children or adolescents will experience a disorder, disability or trauma affecting their development. Students will consider issues relating to children with different developmental pathways, including pathways affected by mental and physical health, trauma and disability.
1. Students will understand the symptoms, causes, and developmental course of several common disorders and their implications for educational and psychosocial outcomes and adjustment.2. For a particular developmental challenge, students will examine and evaluate one or more critical issues and/or compare and contrast a range of perspectives on a particular developmental challenge through an essay integrating empirical research-based information and individual case studies.
