This introduces the student to foundational skills in the design of music and sound effects for interactive video games. Those interested in any aspect of game development will benefit from exposure to historical and current perspectives towards game audio, and will gain knowledge of a variety of approaches to audio creation, editing and integration into video games. Specific practical techniques for working with music and sound effects will be covered. No prior experience in music or sound design is required.
Learning outcomes By the end of this course students will be:1) Conversant with game audio terminology, concepts and practices that are relevant to the industry.2) Fluent in the use of essential techniques employed in the creation and delivery of audio for video game experiences.3) Familiar with relevant concepts and best practices in recording studio engineering.4) Able to critically evaluate how audio is functioning technically and aesthetically within existing video games.5) Familiar with current trends and developments in audio design for games.
