Description

Mana tangata 2 will analyse how to respond to, celebrate and support the unique skills and strengths of our tamariki/ mokopuna as well as how to enhance the ‘kaupapa ngakau nui (the passions) of the tamaiti/ rangatahi. Multiple intelligences including; social intelligence, emotional intelligence, academic intelligence, cultural intelligence, linguistic intelligence, and spirituality will be explored and analysed.The Maramataka including how to plan, support, guide, teach and assess according to signs within the taiao, wairua and ihi of akonga will be explored and analysed.

Learning Outcomes

On the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Use theories and practical strategies in order to support all ākonga through a pito mata, mana potential model in which all ākonga are taonga with their own unique potential.
2. Respond to social and emotional competencies and needs of ākonga, whilst maintaining and/ or uplifting their mana using kaupapa Māori initiatives.
3. Apply and critique a range of methods to record the learning journey of ākonga in recognition of their kaupapa ‘ngākau nui’and areas in which they are progressing on their own poutama.
4. Apply indigenous knowledge systems that support ākonga, kaiako and whānau hauora.

Attendance and Engagement Requirements (Campus students)
Full attendance and participation in campus intensive programmes, Tiriti o Waitangi workshops, and noho marae are compulsory requirements of the programme.

Students are required to attend all scheduled course workshops and lectures. Students are also required to actively engage with course content including readings, online modules and related activities, and any other requirements specified by the course coordinator, in order to meet the learning outcomes of the course.

Students are expected to notify lecturers in writing (e.g. email message) prior to their absence, with an explanation. For extended absences (3 or more days), students should apply to the course coordinator. Extended absences must be accompanied by supporting evidence, e.g. medical certificate. Alternative tasks that demonstrate engagement with course content missed due to absences must be completed to a satisfactory standard if provided.

Attendance issues and/or lack of engagement with course content and activities may impact your ability to pass the course and/or complete the 'Teaching Professional Practice' associated with this course.
