Today, Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury (UC) and Te Ara Poutama Department of Corrections’ partnership was formally recognised with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by Tumu Whakarae | Vice-Chancellor Professor Cheryl de la Rey and Department of Corrections Chief Executive Jeremy Lightfoot.
This MoU signifies a shared commitment to strengthening our existing relationship, considering further research, teaching and learning opportunities for UC students and staff, and professional development and learning for Department of Corrections staff. The longstanding relationship with the Department of Corrections has created unique, real-world learning opportunities for Criminal Justice students, as well as mutually beneficial research opportunities for UC staff and students and the Department.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation Professor Lucy Johnston says this formal recognition celebrates our impactful collaboration so far and for the future.
“This signing reflects our shared commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and creating meaningful change in our communities. It will also allow our researchers and students to collaborate with industry to achieve impactful globally and locally responsive research,” Professor Johnston says.
