Description

The course develops English speaking and listening skills necessary for academic study in Aotearoa New Zealand. The resources used to develop these skills introduce the social and historic context of Aotearoa New Zealand to English language learners. This provides a foundational knowledge base on the relationship between Maori and the Crown from which students can reflect and orally debate the importance of biculturalism for social justice and equity in Aotearoa New Zealand. TRNS023 students simultaneously develop language skills and attain a greater historical and societal awareness of Aotearoa New Zealand. This serves as a first step for learners becoming biculturally competent students in Aotearoa New Zealand.
