INBI carried out three workshops on risk assessment based on the second prototype of the Biosafety Assessment Tool (BAT) at the ‘Holistic Foundations for Assessment and Regulation of Genetic Engineering and Genetically Modified Organisms’ international biosafety course, held in Tromsø, Norway.

The three workshops involved a practical case study of an application for the release of a genetically modified organism, LY038 high lysine corn, at different stages of a risk assessment: molecular characterization, health assessment and environmental assessment. For more information about LY038, see LY038 High Lysine Corn).

Participants used the new prototype of the BAT as an interactive assessment guide during the exercise. Participants were able to assess the effectiveness of its content and the usefulness of its different functionalities. A summary report of their feedback is available: Feedback report 2006 (PDF 377kb)
