Challenge yourself, friends and workmates to the 10,000 Steps program.
Run by the team at CQUniversity Australia since 2001 and coordinated at UC by the UC Rec & Sport Team. We are providing a free program to help you challenge yourself, friends and workmates to move more every day so take a positive step for your health and others around you. 10,000 steps every day is the challenge laid out for you to grasp and accomplish. The challenge will be from August 19th to September 29th.
This may sound like a crazy task but you’d be surprised to know that if you add in all the steps from walking to and from the car, up and down stairs, to and from meetings, and around campus, the step count starts to accumulate without you even knowing.
Take on other Universities across the ditch, challenge other faculties, your peers, or even challenge the students to beat your daily step count.

What is the Australasian University Health Challenge?
The Australasian University Health Challenge is a health-focused initiative where staff and students make behavioural changes to increase their daily levels of physical activity. Being physically active is crucial for health and wellbeing.
A large portion of our adult lives are spent at work; which are progressively becoming more and more sedentary environments. Around half (49%) of New Zealand adults reach the recommended level physical activity per day on average, at least 30 minutes on 5 or more days per week.
12 Universities across Australia and New Zealand have teamed up to provide staff and students with an opportunity to increase their physical activity, through a fun and exciting inter-university competition.
The Australian universities are:
- Australian Catholic University
- Bond University
- Southern Cross University
- The University of Newcastle
- The University of Western Australia
- The University of the Sunshine Coast
- The University of Queensland
- Western Sydney University
The New Zealand universities are:
- The University of Canterbury
- The University of Waikato
- Victoria University of Wellington
Over a 6 week period from 19 August to 29 September, challenge yourself and your friends to increase your daily amount of steps through small yet significant behavioural changes. Represent your University and compete against other institutions across the country and sea.
