The Pacific Development Team celebrates UC Pacific Graduates at the Pasifika Graduation Celebration. During the ceremony, Pacific students who have recently graduated are acknowledged by the university and the community in a Pacific celebration for both the graduate and their family.

Information for Pasifika Graduates

Apply for Pasifika Graduation Celebration

Applying for Pasifika Graduation is a simple process, you simply email Viane (viane.makalio@canterbury.ac.nz) to let him know that you would like to be part of our Pasifika Graduation Celebration. If you do not email him, he will send you an email to check if you would like to do Pasifika Graduation when we receive notice from the General Graduation that you have applied to graduate. In your email, please include:

  1. How many complimentary tickets you would like (maximum 3, see below for more information).
  2. The delivery address for your tickets.

 

Tickets

On confirmation, graduates are eligible for up to three complimentary tickets; one for yourself and two (2) for guests Please confirm as soon as possible by emailing viane.makalio@canterbury.ac.nz and by following the link that was sent to your email.

Additional tickets can be purchased for $20 each from Te Ao Marama Reception from Monday 31 October 2022 

Numbers are strictly limited, so they will be available for purchase on a first come first served basis. Please let us know as soon as possible if you do not require all 3 complimentary tickets, so they can be redistributed. 

 

Arrival requirements

Graduands and graduates are required to arrive at the Engineering Core by 9:00am. This will allow us time to go over the presentation process with everyone; have your family photos taken; and ensure you and your family are seated first before other guests arrive.  

 

Graduation Booklet

To honour our graduates and to allow you to acknowledge your families properly, we provide all guests with a Graduate Booklet. We ask that you submit a 300 – 400 word statement that sums up your time here at UC, as well as a high-quality photo of yourself (extra photo’s may be included). You can use this as an opportunity to thank any friends or family for their support, and also to give advice to other students. You should submit your content asap but no later than Friday 18 November 2022. Due to printing requirements, we cannot guarantee that late submissions will be included. For example, attached you will find last year’s booklet.

Please also indicate if we can use your blurb in the UC student blogs and on our Facebook page.

 

Programme

The programme will start with a blessing followed by a formal UC Welcome by one of our senior staff members and a guest speaker. Graduands and graduates will be called up to receive a Certificate of Acknowledgment. The programme will end with dinner.

 

Academic Regalia

Graduates are required to wear academic regalia to the Graduation Celebration.  If your graduation ceremony the day before Pasifika Graduation Celebration Please contact Graduate Women (03 369 0604) Canterbury, UC Dovedale Campus, Cnr Dovedale & Solway Ave, Ilam, Christchurch 8041 (Parking in carpark 2 you will see our main entrance). This means you will return your gown the following day. If you are graduating the day after Pasifika Graduation, ask if you can pick up your gown earlier. A list of names will be provided to the Federation of Graduate Women so they are aware of your situation.

 

Photos

We will have a photo area where you can your families can have your photos taken.

 

Children 

You are welcome to bring your children but please let us know as only the children of graduates will be permitted. Children under the age of 13 are free.

 

General information

Dress code for this event is semi-formal, except for graduates who should wear their academic regalia.

 

Checklist!

  • Application for hire of academic regalia Graduate Women (03 369 0604) Canterbury, UC Dovedale Campus, Cnr Dovedale & Solway Ave, Ilam, Christchurch 8041 (Parking in carpark 2 you will see our main entrance)
  • Send your blurb to Viane as soon as possible
  • Request an extension on the hire of academic regalia to attend the Pasifika Graduation Celebration
  • Confirm attendance to the Pasifika Graduation Celebration – email Viane Makalio
  • Confirm the number of people you will be in attendance with
  • Inform Viane if you wish to bring your children.
  • Arrive no later than 9.00am at the venue for presentation process, photos and seating.
  • Enjoy this moment and be proud of your accomplishment!
