Sport at UC
There are a number of ways you can stay involved in sport at UC, from social sport, club sport, representing UC in the inter-university competition, or our elite level sport academy as a player/athlete . We also offer a comprehensive internship programme within the UC Sport club and academy environment.
The RecCentre
The RecCentre is the main fitness facility on UC’s campus. All students with a Canterbury Card are eligible for free membership which includes access to the gym, sports facilities and group fitness classes - it's funded by your student levy.

Fitness Facilities
The RecCentre offers modern weights & cardio equipment, boxing & functional training areas & women's only gym.
Group fitness classes
The RecCentre offers a variety of group fitness classes to suit your interests and fitness level. Group fitness classes are free with your membership (excluding zone classes).
Climbing wall
The indoor climbing wall is free for members to use. Routes are reset regularly by the UC Climbing Club who also host introduction sessions and regular club nights.
Sport courts
The RecCentre has 1 squash court, and two gymnasiums marked for basketball, volleyball, netball, futsal and badminton. Equipment is provided for free. Court hire fees may apply after 3pm.
Fitness Services
In addition to facilities, the RecCentre also offers exercise advice, a half-marathon training group and small group training courses at below market rates.
