maori graduation celebration

Nau mai, haere mai ki te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha.

We host a number of events throughout the academic year for Māori students. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and our e-newsletter for details.

Māori Orientation Day

This is a chance for new students and whānau to be welcomed to UC, meet with the Māori Development Team (MDT) and find out about the support services on offer.

The day is designed to give you a head-start on your first semester studies and is also a great time for you to find out how UC systems work, familiarise yourself with the campus and learn about various support services before your studies begin. MDT Student Advisors and Tuākana (Senior Māori Student Mentors) run a range of fun activities throughout the day that help new students and whānau get to know the campus, meet other students, ask questions, get sorted for day one and start to plan for life at UC.

We look forward to meeting you and your whānau at UC Māori Orientation.

Our lunches are for all UC Māori students and a chance to enjoy fellowship, friendship and some good kai. They are held in Terms One and Three.

Celebration for Māori Graduates and Graduands

The Celebration for Māori Graduates and Graduands honours the achievements of our Māori students at the University of Canterbury.

It is an opportunity for graduates of Māori descent to be presented to their whānau, the Māori community and the University. Each graduate is presented with a prized pounamu specifically designed for Māori graduates at UC.

The celebration for Māori Graduates and Graduands is not an official graduation ceremony so graduates are also encouraged to attend the UC graduation ceremonies.

For details about events including times, dates and how to register please see Māori Development Team events on UC Events.
