This is the fifth in a series of joint school seminars showcasing SPCS research …..
Large Ring Laser Gyroscopes
I will overview the Canterbury-German joint programme on large rotation sensing laser interferometers – an activity which started in the late 1980’s, has survived the earthquakes, the subsequent closure of the Cashmere Caverns and if we are lucky, might survive the new Ernest Rutherford building.
Adventures in Natural Product-like Chemical Space
Naturally evolved small molecules (‘natural products’) have provided vital inspiration for many lifesaving drugs; two-thirds of FDA approved drugs in the last four decades owe their origins to NPs. I will discuss the development of a synthetic approach to prepare a natural product-like compound collection and assess its biological relevance.
