Abstract
I will give examples of the challenges in studying natural products chemistry of the unique flora and fauna of Aotearoa New Zealand, and show the range of techniques used by my research group. These will be highlights of three recent student projects, illustrating aspects of project choices, challenges and time lines.
Alistair Richardson, BSc Hons: Phenylanthraquinones and flavone-C-glycosides from New Zealand Bulbinella species; a chemotaxonomic investigation.
Daniel Killeen, PhD: Quantitation and localization of bioactive natural products by spectroscopic methods.
Oliver Watkins, PhD: The chemistry of the bioluminescence of the New Zealand Glow-Worm.
