The consecutive synthesis of heteromultimetallic organometallic compounds featuring between five and eight different transition metals (for example, type A molecule) by applying the molecular tinker-toy approach is discussed. The bridging of the respective metal atoms is verified by carbon-rich π-conjugated connectivities.
In addition, the synthesis, structure and bonding motif as well as the electrochemistry (CV, SWV, LSV) and spectroelectrochemistry (in situ IR, UV-Vis/NIR) of multimetallic organometallic species of type B and C as well as current trends in this field of this chemistry will be reported.
