Since 2007, the University of San Diego has been involved in a project that originated in the development of the Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital in the city of Mbarara in southwestern Uganda. Since that time, this project has evolved from the development of the hospital to a regional approach to address public health issues that can arise from poor water quality, namely diarrheal diseases and childhood developmental issues. This seminar will present the issues facing Uganda and other countries within the Rift Valley region of East Africa, as well as the challenges faced in trying to develop what is now an international project that includes three universities and two non-profit organizations across three countries.
