Postgraduate study and research
Geology is a fascinating, exciting, diverse and multidisciplinary subject, and New Zealand is one of the best places on Earth to study geological processes relating to the tectonics of continental margins, ancient and modern. Our position in mid-southern latitudes and proximity to Antarctica mean New Zealand is a key location for climate change.
We also have research programmes in applied fields including engineering and environmental geology, and disaster risk and resilience.
Postgraduate research areas
The Geology postgraduate programme prepares students for careers in research or industry by in-depth pursuit of a selected group of topics.
A range of postgraduate qualifications are offered in Engineering Geology, with excellent career prospects at home and abroad.
This interdisciplinary subject investigates the environment's structure and interactions.
Rebekah Perry, studying towards a Master of Disaster, Risk and Resilience, shares her UC story.
Thriving postgraduate community
Our postgraduate community is supportive and vibrant, with research being undertaken in diverse topics that reflect the breadth of research opportunities in the deparment.
