Ice shelves form a floating barrier around Antarctica. restricting the flow of continental ice into the ocean. In the last twenty years many ice shelves have thinned and in some cases disappeared altogether. To estimate how the remaining ice will respond, we need to fully understand the process happening right now at the ice shelf margins and in the ocean cavities beneath.
