Assistance with designing, setting up teaching labs and research projects
Booking and issuing field equipment
Advice on field methods & techniques
Training in specific equipment, including running graduate workshop programme
Assistance with basic maintenance & coordination with other ground floor staff or external contractors for specialist repair or manufacture.
Preparation of equipment for field trips
Attend both class field trips and research field projects to provide logistic support, equipment & specialist advice.
Maintain and issue suite of basic equipment for school group use (with training as required)
Happy to provide interactive activities or demonstrations for school groups visiting the department (eg air pollution, GPS, climate, etc).
Presentations to other school groups, such as teacher organisations & school technician conference.
Contract & equipment hire:
Liaison between clients, departmental staff, contractors & Canterprise for a range of commercial projects such as:
Supply & analysis of NO2 diffusion tubes
Hire, installation & analysis for particulate studies (including mini-vols, dust traks, and the Samplemaster 7000).
Hire of GPS equipment (mapping or survey grade) &/or conventional survey equipment (quick-set level, theodolite, total station)
Hire of Climate stations, with training, installation &/or data analysis as required
Laboratory services (eg sediment size distribution analysis using sieves or RSA & pipette if required for fines).
Hire of basic water quality & stream gauging equipment (with training &/or field support)
