Alex Baird Memorial Prize

Description

This prize was established in 2003 in memory of Dr Alex Baird, who joined the academic staff of the University of Canterbury in 1964, teaching varied courses in French language, literature and culture. He was promoted to Reader in French in 1976 and began specializing in teaching the History of Thought in France, with particular emphasis on the 17th century and, in the latter years, initiated successful courses on Sartre, Marcel and the other Existentialists of the 20th century.

Eligibility

For a student excellence in 300-level French, with preference to be given to a student who completes, during the year of the award, 12 points or more in French at this level.
