Christchurch City Council Antarctic Scholarship


The Christchurch City Council offers a $10,000 one-year scholarship for a University of Canterbury student to carry out Antarctic or Southern Ocean research at master's or PhD level. The scholarship includes one season of logistical support provided by Antarctica New Zealand.

An application form will be available below, eight weeks before the closing date. Please complete that form when it is available, and refer to the regulations for full requirements. Note that this scholarship is not managed by the Scholarships Office. The Scholarships Office only advertises it on behalf of Gateway Antarctica, and is not able to answer enquiries. If you have any questions please direct them to Gateway Antarctica.

Please note that in 2019 the closing date is 31 March, which differs from that previously advertised.


A candidate who, during the tenure of the scholarship, is studying for a PhD or is in the thesis year of a master’s degree at the University of Canterbury in an Antarctic-related topic
