Ngata Centenary Doctoral Scholarship


The scholarship is awarded to the first-ranked candidate for the UC Doctoral Scholarship and/or a UC Matariki Doctoral Scholarship in the year of the award who has whakapapa Maori. It was established in 1994 following the centenary of the graduation of the first New Zealand Maori graduate, Sir Apirana Turupa Ngata of Ngati Porou.

Candidates must have whakapapa Maori. They must have completed an appropriate qualification at a level judged to be equivalent to a bachelor's or master's degree with first-class honours at the University of Canterbury (equivalent to a UC GPA of at least 7.0).

$21,000 per annum plus thesis tuition fees at the domestic rate
