HOW TO APPLY

A PhD position is available within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Canterbury (UC), New Zealand.

 

The PhD will sit within the broader transdisciplinary BeLongEng Project, spanning engineering practice and organisational psychology disciplines. The BeLongEng Project is tracking the careers of hundreds of engineers from Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia over the coming decades, providing unprecedented insights into the factors that shape the engineering profession.

 

The successful applicant will start by completing a 12 week project to identify potential research questions for the PhD. The 12 week project will include completing a literature review, and undertaking multivariate statistical analysis. The PhD will commence upon successful completion of the 12 week project.

Key qualifications and skills

The ideal applicant will have a background in engineering, or in organisational or industrial psychology. Experience in multivariate statistical techniques would be advantageous.


Applicants must:
• Qualify for admission to the PhD at UC; a bachelor with honours or master’s degree.
• Exhibit a minimum GPA of 7 in the last two years of study.
• Have completed their most recent study (within 5 years) at a New Zealand university, prior to April 2023.
• Be residing in New Zealand.
• Be available to start the 12 week project before 01 April 2023

 
Does the project come with funding

Yes - The successful applicant will be granted a UC Aho Hīnātore | UC Accelerator Scholarship, which consists of a 12-week research project for which the recipients receive a stipend of $6,000 followed by a 3 year doctoral scholarship covering fees and paying a stipend of $28,000 per annum. Industry top-up scholarships are being sought, for which the successful applicant will be able to apply for.
