Temporary liquor ban during Orientation

The Christchurch City Council has decided to apply a temporary liquor ban to a select public area around the University of Canterbury campus during Orientation from 17-27 February.
The Christchurch City Council has decided to apply a temporary liquor ban to a select public area around the University of Canterbury campus during Orientation from 17-27 February.
The temporary ban will be in place 24 hours a day from 00.00am (ie. 12am, which is the start of the day) on Thursday 17 February to 12.00 hours (ie. 12pm midday) on Sunday 27 February.
This means the ban will apply early in the morning on 17 February. It will cover the public area bounded by Riccarton Road, Clyde Road, Creyke Road, Maidstone Road and Waimairi Road. The ban does not apply to private property, including the University campus. Responsibility for enforcing the liquor ban rests with the Police.
UC and the University of Canterbury Students' Association will continue to promote responsible attitudes towards drinking prior to and during Orientation, and will seek to work closely with the Christchurch City Council to inform students and Ilam residents about the extent of the temporary liquor ban and possible implications for those who do not comply with the conditions of the ban.
"UC does not condone criminal or anti-social behaviour," said UC Vice-Chancellor Dr Rod Carr.
"UC students need to be aware of, and comply with, the council's temporary liquor ban and with our own policy."
