A show home office at the Oval Village will give postgraduate students and staff an idea of what their temporary accommodation will be like.

A show home office at the Oval Village will give postgraduate students and staff an idea of what their temporary accommodation will be like.

The show home, KJ1 - the first building on the left as you enter the village - is now open during working hours for staff and students to visit. Set up with desks and office equipment, it will be open for the next three weeks.

Part of the University of Canterbury campus has been a busy construction site as Hawkins and a large team of sub-contractors work to provide faculty offices, tutorial spaces and small lecture theatres for classes of up to 60 students to replace, temporarily, those damaged in the February earthquake.

A total of 104 units (each 144 sq metres) will be built on the University Oval and at Dovedale. This includes 13 ablution blocks as separate pods. The first eight came into use in early May with the balance due for completion by July. Four units are started daily with 226 piles driven a day.
