The University of Canterbury is this week hosting a visit by a management expert from a prominent business school in Canada.
Associate Professor Hai Lu hails from the Rotman School of Management, the University of Toronto’s business school, and will be at UC for four days. During his visit he will be hosted by the Department of Accounting and Information Systems in the College of Business and Economics.
While at UC he will deliver a seminar to staff and students on the topic "Is Sin Always a Sin? The Interaction Effect of Social Norms and Financial Incentives on Market Participants' Behaviour". More information about his seminar can be found on the UC events website.
Professor Lu has been based at the Rotman School of Management since 2004. His research and teaching interests lie in the areas of regulation of capital markets, securities valuation, corporate governance and financial analysts; and in general more areas of managerial and financial accounting.
He has a PhD in business administration from the University of Southern California and a PhD in optoelectronics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has published widely with papers appearing in leading international journals, such as Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting Research, and the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance.
UC academic Professor Russell Craig (Accounting and Information Systems) said Professor Lu’s analysis of short-selling, insider trading, and the conflicting advice offered by financial analysts, had been very timely.
“His research has attracted much interest, including coverage in the Wall Street Journal.”
