Our department is excited that Dr Rebecca Peer officially started last week. The one problem is that she is stuck in Canada due to our border closures.
When her job at the Stanford-based Carnegie Institute ended she had to (instead of moving to NZ as planned) go the opposite direction to Canada rather than being without health insurance in the USA. Now she's preparing lectures for our 2nd-pro climate change course from her parents basement as she observes Canada's two week isolation requirements.
Rebecca is joining our Civil Systems Engineering group having completed her Masters and PhD in Environmental Engineering at the University of Southern California and her postdoc in energy systems modelling at the Carnegie Institution for Science at Stanford University. Her research interests are concentrated on energy and water systems and her past research has focused on exploring the interconnectedness of these systems and their sustainable development under climate uncertainty. Her most recent work explores the water footprint of our electricity and energy systems, and particularly how to understand resource allocation with energy trade.
In the future, she is excited to pursue research in urban energy and water systems, smart cities, sustainable transitions, and interconnected infrastructure systems beyond water and energy. She will be teaching courses on energy, climate, and systems engineering at the undergraduate and graduate level.
We are happy she's joined the team and hope she can join us in person soon.
