The 12th of October marks the anniversary of New Zealand's Darkest Day – The battle of Passchendaele (Third battle of Ypres). 846 young New Zealanders were killed within four hours and by the end of the day the total number of dead, wounded and missing was 2,700.
This is an image of the ruins of Ypres Cathedral. Ypres Cathedral was heavily damaged throughout the war, due to the many intense fighting battles in the Ypres area.
