Trove: Digitised newspapers
The National Library of Australia are digitising historic newspapers and to date there are over 11 million pages freely available on the Trove website. There is a useful graphic showing the newspapers and date ranges available.
The database can be searched by keyword, browsed by newspaper title, State, date, or categories such as advertising and family notices. Users can enhance the database by text correcting and adding subject tags or annotations.
