Words Between Us - He Kōrero: First Māori-Pākehā Conversations on Paper seminar today

24 May 2012

Te Rū Rangahau - the Māori Research Laboratory of the College of Education, in association with Te Puna Wānanga, School of Māori Education, University of Auckland, invite staff and postgraduate students to a seminar presented by Professor ALISON JONES: Alison will tell the fascinating and largely unknown story of the origins of Māori engagement with schooling and with writing. This presentation, accompanied by reproductions of early archival material, reveals a new account of early Māori education in Australia in the first two decades of the 19th century, how northern Māori taught their European teachers, and how, in 1812, Māori invited the first schoolteacher to New Zealand.

Thursday 24 May 4.30-6.00pm, Dovedale Village DA01, Please rsvp to Adele Cleveland.

The library holds copies of this book in the Macmillan Brown Library.
