The Transit of Venus, Wed 6th June
31 May 2012
There is a small display in the EPS Library about the Transit of Venus which is happening next Wednesday 6th June. This is the last chance to see the Transit of Venus across the sun until the year 2117. No one alive today has seen the transit of Venus from New Zealand. There will be events happening on campus to help you observe this rare astronomical event. In the C2 lecture theatre there will be a live feed from the optical telescope at the University’s Mt. John Observatory in Tekapo, adapted to watch the transit safely. Solar telescopes with astronomers in attendance and SAFE viewing will also be taking place outside the Rutherford Building (North Western side), weather permitting.
We hope to have a link in EPS to the optical telescope at the University’s Mt. John Observatory in Tekapo, which will be providing live images online.
