Major change to Aggregator databases (Proquest, EBSCO, Gale)

19 December 2012

As part of its review of continuing resources, the Library has decided to make some major changes to aggregator database packages from Proquest, EBSCO and Gale. This will provide higher quality and more targeted content; and better searching and linking options. There has been wide consultation on these changes.

The Proquest 5000 and Gale databases through the EPIC consortia will be cancelled. They will be replaced with an EBSCO bundle of databases that includes Business Source Complete, Health and Medical Complete from Proquest, and a small number of individual subscriptions. Proquest 5000 will be unavailable from 1 January 2013 and the new EBSCO resources are available now, however the Library catalogue and MultiSearch will not be fully up-to-date until 8 January due to the size of the changes. The Gale resources will continue to be available until the end of March.

It is important that academic staff check relevant links in Learn and in the Course Information System to ensure that information resources in Proquest 5000 or Gale are linked to a different supplier or replaced. It is illegal to use PDFs downloaded from suppliers for individual use in Learn.

Anyone impacted by the changes should contact their Liaison Librarian, who will direct them to alternative sources.
