Central Library Closure: 16th November 2012 - February 2013
11 June 2012
We remind you that the Central Library and Learning Hub will close for the summer at the end of the 2012 academic year to allow contractors to complete the James Hight remediation and improvement work. While Library staff will be able to retrieve items from the Central Library requested throughout the closure, we understand that staff and students also value the ability to browse shelves to find resources for their teaching, research and learning. We therefore encourage you to plan your schedules accordingly, and suggest that you make particular use of the June exam break and August mid-semester break (Monday 20 August – Friday 31 August) to browse the Central Library collections.
Staff are also looking at a number of other strategies to provide further support, including:
- an increase to the number of borrowable items,
- extending loan lengths,
- increasing the number of open access PCs available in other libraries,
- daily retrieval of material from Central and Crown storage, and
- accompanied browsing of the collections in the tower by appointment with a Liaison Librarian.
Some levels of the Central Library will also be closed in the lead-up to the complete closure. An up-to-date list of dates is available on the Library blog. We will update this as remediation work continues. As with the summer closure, Library staff can retrieve items from these levels when requested.
We appreciate your patience, and apologise for any inconvenience the closures cause. We look forward to sharing the newly-refurbished Central Library with you in 2013.
