Access to UC Libraries Under Red

  • Coronavirus

Under COVID-19 red traffic light setting all UC Libraries are open but there are some restrictions to access.

All online resources and services (e.g. databases, ebooks, Kā kohika, UC research repositoryasklive chat) are available.

Puaka-James Hight (PJH) Library Access

As building capacity limits and vaccine passes apply, Security staff are controlling access to the main entrance on Level 2.  Canterbury Card swipe is not required currently* but you will need to present your vaccine pass and scan in with QR code.  Please wear a mask.

Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) Library Access

Access is controlled by Canterbury Card swipe at the entrance.  Keep your vaccine pass handy for UC checks and please wear a mask.
NB: The swipe system (cardax) restricts access to current Canterbury cards only.
For students the cardax system will check your enrolment details and will reject swipes for students not enrolled in currently running courses. Students not enrolled in summer school courses, that require access to the EPS library over summer, should visit the security office to ask for their access to be extended.

Macmillan Brown Library Access

Library staff are checking vaccine passes and QR code sign-in at the door.  Please wear a mask.
Building capacity limits apply so access is limited to UC staff and students.
External visitors should contact the library to request access.

Consultations with Subject Librarians

You can make an appointment with subect librarians for online (or phone) consultations, or contact by email.  On campus physical consultations are not available under red traffic light setting.

External Borrowers

If you have a vaccine pass you can enter Puaka-James Hight (Central) Library to browse, borrow and pick up holds*.
EPS library is not open to non-Canterbury Card holders so you will need to request EPS items to be picked up from central library (PJH) hold shelf.
Macmillan Brown Library access for external visitors is by request only (). You can request items that are not library use only for pick up at central library (PJH).
We will be limiting pick up location for library catalogue requests to Central Library (PJH) only.

*External access to Puaka-James Hight (Central) Library is conditional on building capacity limits not being met. If demand increases UC borrower use will be prioritised and we may need to instigate Canterbury Card swipe access only.

Keep up to date with UC campus and library Covid-19 information - check UC Covid updates and Library Covid-19 page regularly.
