Beatrice Tinsley, known as “Queen of the Cosmos” is seated in the front row, 6 from the right, of the 1958 Helen Connon Hall group photograph. She graduated from UC with an MSc in Physics with First Class Honours in 1961 and was made professor of astronomy at Yale in 1978.  Tinsley’s work has had a profound influence on what scientists know about the origin and size of the universe.
