International Relationships Office
As part of Student Services and Communications, the International Relationships Office (IRO) assists with international partnerships, institutional collaborations, government and official delegations, and international marketing and recruitment activities.
The IRO is responsible for:
Supporting and developing the University's internationalisation strategy
Our commitment to internationalisation results from our ambition to achieve and maintain world-class quality in all that we do. Our goal is to provide all of our students, domestic and international, with a truly international experience either at UC. Development and support of institution partnerships and relationships leading to internationalisation of the University, including dual degrees, twinning programmes and other collaborations. We are interested in discussing your queries regarding establishing MOU’s and other collaborative agreements.
International government departments and educational offices
The IRO welcomes all inquiries and delegations from embassies and official government offices from around the world. We provide assistance related to government-run international sponsored student scholarship programmes.
The management and growth of study abroad, reciprocal student exchange programmes and staff mobility between the University of Canterbury and its partner universities is undertaken by the IRO.

Short-term educational programmes
We can provide information on short-term programmes, such as summer or winter educational camps for high schools students, customised postgraduate upgrading courses, right through to professional development for private or public sector groups.
Secondary school pathway programmes
The University of Canterbury appreciates the importance of providing secondary school counsellors with options and opportunities for their international students. We are happy to discuss ways to work together with you and your students, whether in New Zealand or anywhere in the world.
