Study Sport at UC
UC offers the only specialist sport coaching degree in New Zealand, the Bachelor of Sports Coaching. Our range of qualifications provide a pathway to a number of careers including professional sports coaching, management and teaching (when combined with a second teaching subject and postgraduate qualification).
An internationally recognised qualification, the Bachelor of Sport Coaching is notable for its flexible learning options - you can study full or part-time, by distance or choose a qualification to complement your other studies. Our qualifications have a strong practical skills component. Hands-on learning means students are work ready and our graduates are found in a wide range of careers. Sport Coaching is also a popular choice when selecting a double degree.
Sport coaching at UC produces coaches who are athlete-centred and can design and deliver interactive coaching sessions. The skills our coaches gain include communication, leadership, teamwork and the ability to think quickly and adapt to changing situations – key career skills valued in many work contexts.

Add a one-year intial teacher education qualification to your BSpC degree to become a Physical Education teacher.
The Sport and Exercise Research Lab (SERL) covers areas ranging from coaching, sport sociology and anthropology, through to health and sports performance.
