Researcher development

Pursuing graduate research is not just about undertaking a significant academic research project and writing a thesis, it is a journey during which students develop as researchers and prepare for future careers.

The Researcher Development team at Te Kura Tāura | UC Graduate School accompanies graduate research students on this journey by offering dedicated support. The team works closely with experts across the University to create a Researcher Development Framework that students can use to structure their development and navigate their research journey at UC. It will consist of training and development opportunities tailored to each stage of a student’s candidature.

Furthermore, the team acts as first point of contact for students, supervisors and other UC staff supporting research students. Two dedicated Kaitoko | Research Student Advisors facilitate students’ transition into UC, as well as accompany students on their research journey by offering regular one-on-one support.

Conducting graduate research is an exciting, but also challenging endeavour. As such, the team has a strong focus on supporting student wellbeing. The Kaitohutohu Oranga|Lead Advisor – Wellbeing works with the Te Kura Tāura team and colleagues across the university to establish processes and practices that boost research student wellbeing.
