This Master’s is a practice-focused degree for students with engineering or architecture backgrounds to gain professional, work-ready building design skills. There is also a part-time option available for those working in the industry and wanting to upskill.
Students can receive their master’s in the following endorsements:
- Integrated Building Design
- Structural Engineering
- Building Services and Energy Engineering
The MArchEng consists of eight courses studied full-time over one year or part-time over 2-4 years.
In Part I of the programme, all students study two interdisciplinary courses ENAE 601 Whole Building Behaviour and Performance and ENAE 602 Collaborative Design Studio, and two practice-focused technical courses.
In Part II of the programme, all students take ENAE 620 Integrated Building Design Project and three technical elective courses.
The PGCertArchEng consists of four courses that can be completed in six months of full-time study or up to 2 years of part-time study.
All students study ENAE 601 Whole Building Behaviour and Performance and ENAE 602 Collaborative Design Studio, and two technical elective courses.
A four-year bachelor's with honours degree in a subject related to building design is the required entry qualification, but students with other degrees and/or suitable work experience will also be considered for admission to a Postgraduate Certificate in Architectural Engineering with the right to transfer to the Master of Architectural Engineering if they perform well.
Admission to the Structural Engineering and Building Services and Energy Engineering endorsements are restricted to students with a suitable bachelor’s with honours degree in Engineering.
An Architectural Engineering course is typically 6-8 weeks long with attendance at the University required only during workshops (typically 2-4 days in total for each course).
See the Master of Architectural Engineering or the Postgraduate Certificate in Architectural Engineering for a full list of required courses.
Graduates of this Master’s will be filling a growing and competitive market need for engineers and architects, with the unique combination of technical and collaborative design skills. Building design professionals with modern design knowledge of sustainable, high-performance buildings, and digital design and construction, are especially sought by employers internationally.
