Scholarships for Women

UC actively encourages women to pursue their academic goals at the University, particularly in fields where women are underrepresented.

Dr John Innes Scholarship $5,000 per annum for up to four years Applicants must be current pupils of either Te Kāreti Kōhine o Wairau | Marlborough Girls' College or Te Kāreti Taitama o Wairau | Marlborough Boys' College.  Tenure is for three years. Recipients in a four-year undergraduate programme or intending to enrol in a post-graduate programme may apply for a fourth year of tenure 15-Aug

Elman and Alfred Poole Southland Boys' and Southland Girls' High Schools UC Scholarship $5,000 per annum for up to three years The scholarship is tenable during full-time enrolment in an undergraduate degree programme at the University Must be a citizen of New Zealand 15-Aug
Tait Foundation WiE CAN Scholarship $5,000  Applicants must have participated in the WiE CAN residential programme at the University of Canterbury.  Must be intending to enrol in first year of a BE (HONS) programme. 15-Aug 
UCSA Lloyd Lilley Scholarship $1,200 Applicants must have studied at Southland Boys' High School or Southland Girls' High School in the year of application Tenable during full-time enrolment 15-Aug

Helen Trappitt Engineering Scholarship for Women in Civil or Natural Resources Engineering $2,000  Students in the First Professional Year of a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours degree programme specialising in Civil or Natural Resources Engineering  Must be a New Zealand citizen or hold a New Zealand residence class visa  31-Mar
Helen Wiley Prize $500  Students who excel in Mathematical Sciences at 300 or 400-level    Application not required 
New Zealand Steel Sir John Ingram Scholarship Tuition fees support to the value of $3,000 per annum. A single stipend of $1,000 and an offer of a paid internship with New Zealand Steel 

Must be enrolled in the First Professional Year of a BE(Hons) in one of the following:

  • Chemical and Process Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronics Engineering

Sir William Hartley Scholarship $20,000 per annum for three consecutive years Full-time study for a research doctoral degree at a university in Europe There is only one holder of this scholarship at a time 1-Nov
