Department tours

Classics and Music at The Arts Centre of Christchurch

UC Music and Classics now have a beautiful central city location in the historic Arts Centre of Christchurch. This amazing heritage building has had a custom fit out to include: teaching and practice studios for performance music; a beautiful recital room for public performances; a lecture theatre; meeting rooms; student and staff common room; and the jewel in our crown, The Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities, which houses the university’s Logie Collection. 

The Arts Centre site will be open for students to drop into between 12:30pm and 1:30pm on Open Day. Complimentary vans will depart from the Accommodation Hub, Matariki at 12:15pm and return by 2pm.

Students will have the opportunity to have a tour of the building and a look around the Teece Museum  the perfect way for Music and Classics students to finish their UC Open Day experience. 

School of Fine Arts

Engineering Precinct

The Engineering precinct is open for self-guided tours of the Engineering Core and the departments of Chemical and Process EngineeringCivil and Natural Resources EngineeringElectrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering

Software Engineering will also have a display in the Engineering Core. Staff and students will be on hand to showcase our labs, provide demonstrations and answer questions.

Product Design will also be open for visitors all day, they are located in the Len Lye (Science and Engineering Annex) building.

If you are taking part in the Engineering and/or Science tours, you will need to wear closed-toe shoes to enter the labs.

Science tours

The Ernest Rutherford building in the science precinct will be open all day for self-guided tours of the labs and interactive displays. Staff and students will be on hand to showcase our labs, provide demonstrations and answer questions.

Centre for Entrepreneurship

The UC Centre for Entrepreneurship (UCE) | Te Pokapū Rakahinonga provides a dedicated, student-focused space where ideas and innovation can flourish, stimulating the development of entrepreneurs through a combination of research, teaching and community engagement. UCE is open for visitors from 10am – 2pm. 

UC Business School Trading Room

The UC Business School Trading Room | Te Kura Umanga Wāhi Hokohoko is a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility for students, industry and the wider community. The UC Business School Trading Room is open for visitors from 10am – 2pm. 

The Arts Centre site

The Arts Centre site will be open for students to drop into between 12:30pm and 1:30pm on Open Day. Complimentary vans will depart from Ilam Campus at 12.15pm and return by 2pm.

Students will have the opportunity to have a tour of the building and a look around the Teece Museum – the perfect way for Music and Classics students to finish their UC Open Day experience.

The School of Fine Arts studios

At Open Day, take a tour through the studios in the School of Fine Arts, the creative environment. The School of Fine Arts studios are open all day to visitors.

UC Business School Trading Room | Te Kura Umanga Wāhi Hokohoko

The UC Business School Trading Room | Te Kura Umanga Wāhi Hokohoko is a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility for students, industry and the wider community. The Trading Room allows students to put theory into practice with access to financial databases and tools used worldwide.

UC Trading Room is open for visitors from 10am – 2pm.

Library Tours

Central Library | Te Puna Mātauraka o Waitaha, Puaka-James Hight

  • Tours provided on demand: 10am – 4pm
  • Opening hours: 8am – 11pm

Just inside the entrance of the Central Library there will be a display featuring all of the libraries and library services on campus. Drop in any time during the day to have a look.

Macmillan Brown Library | Te Puna Rakahau o Macmillan Brown, Te Ao Mārama

  • A chance to get up close with artworks, architectural drawings, rare books and other treasures used for teaching and research.
  • Tours provided on demand: 10am – 4pm
  • Opening hours: 8.30am – 5pm

Engineering and Physical Sciences Library | Te Puna Pūkaha me te Pūtaiao, Creyke Road

  • Tours provided on demand: 10am – 4pm
  • Opening hours: 8am – 9pm
