Kidsfest 2019: A Food Odyssey
The adventures of the Greek hero Odysseus included a number of encounters with food – dinner with an enchantress, and drinking with a cyclops to mention but a few! His amazing journeys were beautifully illustrated in the early 1800s by the famous English artist John Flaxman (1755-1826).
Inspired by the line-drawings from editions of Flaxman’s Iliad and Odyssey in the University of Canterbury Rare Books Collection, the Teece Museum invites artists of all ages to help colour in a series of larger than life storyboards all about Odysseus and food.
Drop by the Pūmanawa gallery (Arts Centre ) anytime between 10am-3pm, 8-12 July, get your artistic juices flowing, and help bring 'A Food Odyssey' to life. Entry is free. Gold coin donation welcomed. Caregiver supervision recommended.
Make a meal of it, and get another taste of food in the ancient world by also visiting the 'Fantastic Feasts' exhibition at the Teece Museum, just across the Arts Centre.
