Abstract

Stroke is the second largest cause of disability worldwide. As populations age, improvements in the field of stroke rehabilitation become increasingly important. Hybrid exoskeletons are exoskeletons which combine Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) in conjunction with electromechanical actuators. This work investigates the potential of hybrid exoskeletons to improve the effectiveness of stroke rehabilitation, particularly with regards to FES-induced fatigue.
