2018 Mech Eng Postgrad Video Competition

18 October 2018

Are you sick of waving your hands around mumbling “physics and stuff” when people ask you what your research is on? Describe your Mechanical or Mechatronics research in an easy-to-understand 60 seconds video and be in to win one of 3 200$ prizes!

Our department’s Postgrad Video Competition competition will allow you to explain your research to lay people in 60 second videos. Our audience’s curiosity has already been piqued: we’re catering to a smart bunch!

What’s in it for you? Good ol’ competitive spirit, a desire to practice your pitching skills to a non-professional audience and 3 sweet $200 vouchers.

Rules of the competition:

  • Eligibility: Any enrolled postgrad student in ME at UC
  • Original footage only
  • Submission deadline: 19 November 2018
  • Video format and naming: Please submit your videos in .MP4, .MOV, .AVI or .MPEG format and titled “videoresearch_name.mp4”
  • Please send the link to: mechpublicity@canterbury.ac.nz

What we judge:

  1. Clarity of content
  2. Impact of the research & original contribution
  3. Storytelling

The Judging panel: one academic and one technical staff member, two publicity team members, three postgrad students from other disciplines.

While we encourage creative freedom, we are also mindful of, and would probably disqualify videos which feature: violence, copyright infringement, high risk to you, the audience and the general public at large.

Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony. More questions? Please send us an e-mail: mechpublicity@canterbury.ac.nz

Give us your best!
