UC Solar Team

For over 30 years, the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge has welcomed the greatest minds from around the world to Australia to push the limits of technological innovation and travel the outback in a vehicle powered only by the energy of the sun.
Mission 2021
There are 3 classes in the competition, the Challenger, Cruiser, and Adventure class. We are competing in the Cruiser Class, which is tasked with designing a passenger vehicle, of 2-4 people, and is less of a race and more of a marathon. It takes place over 8 days with about 8 hours of driving per day. The course is from Darwin to Adelaide, over 3000km. The car will be judged in terms of aesthetics, practicality, as well as overall performance. The idea is to make a car that is capable of replacing your everyday car. As we are designing the car from scratch, we will be developing every aspect of it, from the chasis and drive train, to the seats and storage compartments. This will be a fundamental research, design, build and optimize project that will need a broad variety of skills.
Skills that you will develop over the course of this project are:
- Computer Aided Design (CAD)
- Aerodynamics Simulations
- Part Fabrication
- Composite Development
- Testing and Optimization
- Circuit Design
- Power Systems Development
- Management
- and many more
So if you are keen to hone your skills and apply your degree, join us!
Facilities
We use the Mech Eng labs for this project including the Wind Tunnel lab (Aerodynamics, Hydrodynamics and PIV laboratory) and the 3D prining lab, as well as the machining workshops.
Team
We design and build a car for the World Sollar Challenge 2021 to compete in the Cruiser class. For more information, email us solarcar.uc@gmail.com or contact any of the Team's members.
